essensys’ Marketing Tech Stack And Reporting Needs
We were approached by essensys’ CMO, Meyer Prinsloo. His team is using HubSpot marketing and CRM tools to manage new business pipeline and digital marketing. The marketing team was also looking for a solution to build automated and interactive reports for essensys’ board reports and the sales team.
What was missing in the HubSpot reporting tool?
The essensys team quickly saw limitations in HubSpot’s reporting tool when trying to build custom data analysis. For instance, it was impossible to track data and compare performance metrics over time. “HubSpot’s reporting tool also felt short in data consistency and segmentation”, said Meyer, “we had some issues counting unique potential leads for example”. “We were also looking to segment our data with an “AND/OR” structure to identify specific attributes and see when the export Hubspot data changed. But HubSpot only provides with an “AND” filter which wasn’t enough to build our prospects and customer intelligence”. “So, we started looking for a solution that could give us the flexibility that we needed to build more advanced reports.”

How did ClicData fill the gaps for essensys’ reporting?
“The HubSpot solution’s API is quite restrictive in the way data can be extracted, especially when it comes to time-series data.” Explains Meyer, “So, in order to resolve this issue, we engaged with ClicData to pull and aggregate our data from HubSpot together with time-sliced data. That way, we built one consistent view of this data across the deal object, the contact object, and the company object within HubSpot.”
This synchronization allows them to build predictable ROI and reporting for stakeholders. “This particular manipulation was previously done manually and was very time-consuming: exporting data in Excel spreadsheets from HubSpot, cleansing the data, and cross-referencing the data each time we were trying to find answers.” Now, they automate the process with ClicData’s smart connector to HubSpot. “Once we have built that view, we could easily synchronize it back to HubSpot every week. We now have a single point of reference that the sales and leadership team can use to look at lead contribution and lead attribution.”
